- Read your pre-operative instructions. They contain important information about your procedure and type of anesthesia chosen. There are specific instructions regarding food, drink, your escort for surgery, what to avoid before surgery, what to wear and bring to your appointment, and what to plan for after your procedure.
- If you are prescribed medication prior to your procedure, pick it up before your procedure.
- Get stocked up with soft foods. Some ideas are soups or broths, smoothies, shakes, yogurt, mashed potatoes, eggs, oatmeal, cheese, applesauce, avocado, ice cream, and bananas.
- Plan your escort for surgery. Your escort must be a responsible adult who can stay in the office during your procedure and be with you for 24 hours after your appointment.
- Get your outfit ready. You will want to wear comfortable loose-fitting clothing. You should wear long comfortable pants and your shirt should be short-sleeved so your provider will have access to your arm for an IV and/or to monitor your vital signs. Make sure to wear flat, close-toed shoes.
- What NOT to wear: contact lenses (bring your glasses), nail polish, fake/acrylic nails, makeup, jewelry, perfume or any other odors, and any removable oral appliance.
- Do not smoke for at least 24 hours prior to your procedure.
- Arrive to your appointment at your given check-in time. There may be a couple more forms for you to sign. Allow yourself enough time to get ready and to the office, as you do not want to feel rushed or stressed on your way to surgery.
- Make sure all your questions are answered. We want our patients to be well-informed and confident going into their oral surgery procedure. Please do not hesitate to ask for clarification or to call with additional questions. You are our priority.
- Get a good night of sleep before your surgery day. This can help you physically and mentally.
