Meet the Doctor
Dr. David Obenchain was born and raised in Idaho Falls, Idaho where he grew up enjoying a variety of outdoor activities Idaho has to offer including backpacking, alpine skiing, and backcountry camping. He graduated Cum Laude from Idaho State University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Zoology. When Dr. Obenchain graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of Nebraska Medical Center College of Dentistry with his Doctor of Dental Surgery Degree, he was elected to Omicron Kappa Upsilon, the national dental honor society whose membership is limited to dental students exhibiting excellence in scholarship, exemplary character and qualities for professional growth and attainment. In that same year, he earned the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons Award for demonstrating exemplary aptitude and achievement in oral and maxillofacial surgery.
After completing a hospital-based general practice residency at the University of Nebraska Medical Center where he spent a great deal of time treating patients who required advanced and or hospitalized care, Dr. Obenchain completed four additional years of oral and maxillofacial surgery residency training at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. Dr Obenchain’s residencies allowed him a comprehensive experience in providing a broad scope of oral and maxillofacial surgery procedures. Alongside focused training in oral & maxillofacial surgery and office-based anesthesia, Dr. Obenchain completed additional rotations in general surgery, neurosurgery, trauma, internal medicine, intensive care and hospital-based anesthesia.
Dr. Obenchain takes time to know his patients and has been recognized by patients to be very personable and down to earth. He listens attentively, and spends time educating, answering questions, and acknowledging all concerns that his patients and their families may have before devising the best plan for his patients’ needs. Although Dr. Obenchain is trained in and enjoys all phases of oral & maxillofacial surgery, he has a specific passion and strong focus in wisdom teeth surgery and outpatient general anesthesia. Dr. Obenchain maintains certifications in Basic Life Support, Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support, and Pediatric Advanced Life Support. He is Board Certified by the National Dental Board of Anesthesiology in Sedation and General Anesthesia and is Board Certified by the Academy of Clinical Sleep Disorders Disciplines. He is a member of the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, Washington State Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, American Dental Society of Anesthesiology, American Dental Association, Washington State Dental Association and Seattle King County Dental Society.
